Notes To Washington
9-29-05...Letter to Rep. Jan Shakowsky Urging Impeachment
I've read reports that there were up to 300,000 people in Washington September 24th protesting what I believe is an illegal war in Iraq. I also understand that up to 600,000 have called for impeachment through the referendum at ImpeachBush.org and I fully support this cause. I have been very unhappy with this president, his agenda and his administration and the way it has altered the political landscape in our country and the world's perception of the United States. I demand that Congress take action to hold George W. Bush accountable for high crimes and misdemeanors and to introduce Articles of Impeachment. President Bush and other high officials of his administration have lied to the people of the United States. We are not idiots, although I have had to wonder about so many Americans who are willing to go along with so many obviously flawed arguments for various policies including the basis and necessity for war, torture, neglect of constitutional rights and many other related failures. He has sent the sons and daughters of the United States to war on false pretenses resulting in the death and maiming of thousands of U.S. service people and more than a hundred thousand Iraqis. And for what? It remains to be seen, of course, but that doesn't take away the lack of accountability for criminal actions that seem to be the status quo for this administration. He has violated his oath of office to uphold the Constitution. He has failed in his responsibilities to the people of the United States which has resulted in criminal neglect in the handling of Hurricane Katrina and in the business affairs of our government. I pay the tab for all these failures, not George Bush or the members of Congress. Enough is enough. Let's get some leadership in the White House. I appreciate your great efforts and urge you to push for change...and for Impeachment. Sincerely, Don Conoscenti / Chicago IL 9-29-05
