Notes To Washington
1-9-06...Letter to Republican Leaders Regarding Replacement of House Majority Leader Tom Delay
I'm very grateful for any elected leader who stands up for the greater good of our nation and it's people regardless of party affiliation or influence by party leaders, committee members, the White House, lobbyists, corporate/financial interests, etc. It gives me hope to see efforts in Congress for change and so I applaud Representatives Jeff Flake and Charles Bass for suggesting it's time for leadership change in the House. But I agree with Representative Melissa Hart...to replace Tom Delay alone doesn't go far enough. For myself, the Republican Party will lose any support from me unless it truly demonstrates that it is more interested in good legislation than in catering to special interests. This would be demonstrated by demanding behavioral and policy making changes starting with the House and Senate leaders and going right on down the ranks. Put special interests aside and start making sound policy decisions that are fiscally responsible and benefit the citizens, the true majority. Not the moral or special interest majorities. Enough is enough. I am an independent, non-partisan voter and taxpayer and I attempt to vote for the most qualified person. Someone who is looking out for the greater good...something that can benefit a broad sector of the population and pave the way for real solutions to the most pressing problems while protecting the rights of citizens everywhere. I urge you to clean house from top to bottom. And I will write to Democratic leaders to do the same, but the public can't help notice that this White House and this Republican Majority are undeniably linked to the largest scandals and the biggest mistakes and abuses of power some of us have ever been made aware of. I'm not nave. I know this is not new. But it's on your watch and it's time for our elected leaders to act like elected leaders. Please take actions for sweeping changes. The public's patience will not last until November of 2006 and good and reasonable Republican Representatives may find themselves voted out of office due to a public backlash. Thank you so much for listening. I understand that you have tough jobs and there are few straightforward solutions for the complex problems and negotiations and compromises involved. These are challenging times and it has raised the awareness of common Americans like myself who would like to see our Nation back on track. Wishing you and yours the best in 2006. Sincerely, Don Conoscenti / Chicago IL 1-9-06
