Just finished playing the first festival of the season, the Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival, and it was a sweet one...set in the hills of Maryland on the Susquehanna river with eagles and hawks cruising around looking for scrawny folksingers to eat. I highly recommend this festival to you folks in the Philly, Baltimore, D.C. region.
Eric Balky won the songwriting contest against some steep competition. Dana Keller sat in with me on pedal steel and blew the place away. Chris Chandler also collaborated with me on a piece and I got some sweet backup vocal help Sonia (Disappear Fear) and Tom Kimmell. Sonia really helped to spearhead this festival and she is amazing. Monday morning after the festival she trucked off to D.C. to speak to Congress about saving Internet Radio. Please consider calling, e-mailing or writing your Reps and ask them to support the freedom of the internet and the survival of internet radio. It hasn't been bought up and corrupted by the big media corporations yet, but it is currently at risk of being done in.
My pal Gussie gave me and Henry Lefkowitz a tour of the American Indian Museum in D.C. before I flew home from the festival. It was my first visit and I love that place. It's an honest, beautiful and rebellious museum. The stories and histories are finally told honestly by the peoples that are being presented. My kind of museum. The building looks like an massive, ancient Pueblo and I'm lucky I wasn't run over while crossing the street and walkng up to it...I couldn't take my eyes off it.
The most exciting thing in my life lately is the news. I don't mean to be mean...but I must admit that I'm fascinated by the unraveling of any corrupt mechanism that tries as hard to create and maintain itself as the Bush administration and the Republican congress have the last 6 years. I've suffered enough in my own life not to wish more suffering on others but when you've got it coming and everyone knows it...well what can I say. let justice have it's day, week, month...
It inspires me...to behave myself!! My life is much slower and less connected these days. no phone or internet at home. I LOVE THAT. I plan to erase my MySpace page sometime in the upcoming weeks as well. This website continues to be the best channel for me to stay connected and in touch. It's small, efficient and fun. Thanks for supporting it. Wishing you all peace and joy. DonCon
